Today’s 333 Devotional: “God’s Power for our Present Need”
The men of Issachar understood the times and knew what to do (1 Chronicles 12:32). In this world we need such understanding along with the knowledge of what to do.
There’s never been a time like this with disease and violence ever increasing, people facing financial and moral crises and becoming disillusioned and despairing of life.
People are desperate to see something happen, to find some sort of breakthrough as they are being overwhelmed by life and ready to quit.
Platitudes do little to help. Statements like, “Hang in there, the sun will rise again” do little if anything to help our present situation. More is needed than a mere pep talk. What is needed is the power of the Holy Spirit on full display. It is where the Holy Spirit lives inside in incredible power, and not just some theological teaching.
The Apostle Paul said, “For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance … And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 1:5-6)
The believers were facing great affliction, but instead of being anxious or worried, they gave it all over to the Holy Spirit who filled them with power to overcome, along with a joy evidenced by all.
There’s living within all believers the Holy Spirit. The Lord has given the Holy Spirit not only to empower us to be witnesses for Christ, but to bear our burdens and give us victory, but only if we allow Him to take control of our lives, including what we are facing in this world today.
It’s through the power of the Holy Spirit that we learn not only what is going on around us and the knowledge of what to do, but the power to overcome and have victory over this present evil age.
