Today’s Devotional: “God Remembers”
The word “remember” is powerful. As believers, we are commanded to remember the Lord and what He’s done for us.
The Psalmist said, “I will remember the works of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old.” (Psalm 77:11)
We also use the word remember when asking God to remember His promises and help us in our time of need. Samson prayed, “O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once.” (Judges 16:28)
The thief on the cross said, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom” (Luke 23:42).
But the most powerful use of the word “remember” is when God tells us that He remembers us and His covenant promises toward us.
The Bible says, “Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing … (saying) ‘I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh … The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.’” (Genesis 8:1; 9:15-16)
God had just finished His judgment against humanity’s wickedness and the flood He sent upon the earth. It says God remembered Noah and the creatures on the Ark, made a covenant with Noah never to destroy the earth by flood again, and set a rainbow in the sky to remind us of this promise.
No matter what we may be going through, whether we feel forgotten, down, and dejected, or are suffering from illness or disease, we need to remember that the Lord God remembers His promises. Promises such as that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) and that Jesus will be with us to the end (Matthew 28:20).
So today, remember that God remembers you and will be there for you through thick and thin.
