Thought For Today: “For Such a Time as This”

“True religion confronts earth with heaven and brings eternity to bear upon time.” (A.W. Tozer)

The gospel message does not concern itself with the time we live in; rather it is timeless. Yet it speaks to our time as well. The gospel message doesn’t come out of the times we live in, but it is appropriate to them.

It is with this in mind that we take Paul’s admonition to be ready in and out of season to preach the word, because people will no longer endure sound teaching. Instead, they would rather listen to those who teach only what they want to hear, and thus be turned away from the truth (2 Timothy 4:2-4).

This is why Paul gives us this truth about God’s word.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
