Thought For Today: “Equal Opportunity in God’s House”

I came across a very unusual verse. It’s found in David’s delegation of the workload in the Temple.

“And they cast lots for each gate, the small as well as the great, according to their father’s house.” (1 Chronicles 26:13)

Society has a grading system based upon power, prestige, and possessions. But these are not to be found in the House of God. In our service of the Lord, whether cleaning the bathrooms or teaching a Bible class there must always be equality and opportunity for all.

In the above verse lots were cast, but it wasn’t the luck of the draw, rather it was what Solomon said.

“The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:33)

We are to seek direct guidance from the Holy Spirit, and the choice is not up to us, rather it is up to the Lord. Therefore, whatever we consider to be important must be given little to no weight in the decision-making process.
