Thought For Today: “Don’t Give Up On Prayer”

Zechariah the priest, and his wife Elizabeth were faithful followers of God, but they never were able to have a child. They’d been faithfully praying for a child, but after many years, Elizabeth being barren, and both past the ability to have children, they may have likely been tempted to give up saying, “It’s God will for us not to have children.”

But God heard their prayer; He just had a different time to fulfill it, because their child was to be the herald for the coming Messiah, Jesus.

And so, when the lot fell to Zechariah to offer up the incense to the Lord in the temple, the angel Gabriel came to him saying, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord.” (Luke 1:13-15a)

God hears and answers our prayers, but they may not always be in our time or the way we wish. But no matter what, don’t give up. Keep on praying.

The Psalmist said, “Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.” (Psalm 116:2)
