Don’t Give Up On God
What I believe the Lord would have me share with you today is a verse that I have often read, but hadn’t realized its full implications. It was written by King David.
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13)
David is sure about this one thing; that out of all that he had experienced he was sure he would still experience God’s goodness during his lifetime. In other words, during this lifetime God will come and rescue him no matter what the trials and difficulties he might be experiencing.
Now this flies in the face of what most people believe. They’ve already given up all such hope for this present life. Their hope lies in heaven, that heaven is their only hope for experiencing the joy and goodness of God.
And while heaven is our ultimate hope, such thinking short circuits what God wants to do for us right here and now.
The Apostle Paul knew this. His desire was clear.
“For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.” (Philippians 1:23)
Yet he knew that to stay and fulfill his ministry was more needful for the church, and that to remain and continue would help their progression and joy in the faith.”
“Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith.” (Philippians 1:24-25)
How about you? Don’t lose heart. Don’t give up hope. Believe in the Lord that He has something great in store for you. Listen to the hope that’s yours.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
