Deliverance: It’s Not Always From

Thought For Today: “Deliverance: It’s Not Always From”

When we think of God’s deliverance, we think of the great Exodus, where, through 10 plagues, God delivered the Jews from their Egyptian captivity.

This is the kind of deliverance we want, hope for, and desire.

But God’s deliverance involves more than just rescue from; it also includes rescue through. Jesus’s prayer for us is not for us to be delivered from this world, but that God would deliver us from Satan and help us through the darkness and into the light.

“I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.” (John 17:15)

The Apostle Paul prayed three times to be freed from a thorn in the flesh, but God had a different kind of deliverance in mind.

“Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9)

Therefore, while we pray for God to deliver us from the storms, we should also pray for God’s will, which might not be a deliverance from the storms, but a deliverance through them.
