Thought For Today: “Comparison is the Death of Joy”
“For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” (2 Corinthians 10:12)
We will never achieve satisfaction when we compare ourselves to anything and anybody.
Unfortunately, we judge ourselves based upon how many friends and followers we have on Facebook and Twitter. We also judge ourselves, and determine our worth based upon the clothes we wear, the car we drive, or where we live.
But, we will never have enough to meet our own or worldly standards. So instead of playing the comparison game, we need to learn how to be content with what God has graciously given; only then will the joy of the Lord overwhelm our heart and life.
This was the Apostle Paul’s conclusion to those who are always seeking more.
He said, “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” (1 Timothy 6:6)
