Thought For Today: “Cleansing Needed”
If a child disobeys and runs outside on a rainy day and comes back covered in mud, he or she doesn’t lose their family membership, but maybe and arm or a leg if mom has just cleaned. And while they remain a member of the family they aren’t immediately invited to sit down at the table for dinner. Instead, they need to take a bath and get cleaned.
What’s needed isn’t a new birth, but rather a washing.
Jesus said, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you are clean.” (John 13:10)
We will make mistakes and sin, and while we’re saved by grace, we still sin. But when we sin, we don’t have to become born-again; rather we need to confess and repent, that is, scrubbed and cleansed, and move forward into the calling of God.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
