“Today’s Devotional: “Christian Faith in America”
In an article entitled, “Do American Christians Actually Have Biblical Beliefs?” George Barna, lead researcher at the Cultural Research Center (CRC) at Arizona Christian University, announced the results of a new survey from CRC entitled “American Worldview Inventory 2021.”
What George Barna and his research team found is that while 69% of American adults identify as “Christian,” only six percent have a biblical worldview.
And while the name Christian has become sort of a generic term, rather than a name for someone who loves and is passionately pursuing a relationship with Jesus Christ, the report had some shocking revelations, which are the unbiblical beliefs among those Christians who identify as evangelicals, born-again, and even theological born-again Christians.
What was found is that a vast majority of those who are born-again Christians say all faiths are equal, there are no moral absolutes, and that a person can be good enough to get to heaven.
“Interestingly,” says Barna, “just 44% believe that when they die they will go to Heaven, but only because they have confessed their sins and accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. In other words, nearly six out of 10 people who claim to be born-again do not meet the widely accepted, biblical definition of born-again.”
At the end of the survey, it was then found that only six percent of all American adults, or 15 million people, have what Barna calls a biblical worldview.
What this brings to light is that we need to make a closer inspection as Paul tells us to examine ourselves to see if we’re in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5), and then what Jesus said at the parable of the wedding feast how many are called, but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14).
But also, let’s not forget Jesus’s question about what He will find when He does return.
“Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
So, when we die, or raptured will we hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant … Enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:21)
