Today’s 333 Devotional: “Can We Just Believe?”
The Psalmist said, “The Mighty One, God the Lord, has spoken” (Psalm 50:1)
As I pondered this verse, what got my attention is that the Lord God, the Creator of heaven and earth, has spoken, who are we then to question. Who are we to question what the Lord has revealed? Who are we to sit in judgment or question the nature and character of God?
Instead, the Bible tells us not to be rash or hasty in what we say, because God is in heaven and we’re on earth, therefore let our words be few. (Ecclesiastes 5:2)
Yet we have the audacity to judge God based upon our experiences or investigate His creation to see what is of God, or what is just random chance.
When Moses encountered the burning bush, he turned aside to investigate, and as He approached the Lord said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground … I am the God of your father–the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (Exodus 3:5-6)
And when Moses heard these words, he bowed and hid his face.
When we take time to enter God’s word, or to take time to contemplate our life’s journey with God, let’s do so in reverent fear.
To Job the Lord said, “Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.” (Job 38:2)
And in response Job put his hand over his mouth.
And so, God has spoken, who are we to judge. Instead, maybe we should just say “Thank You,” especially considering God amazing grace in sending His Son, Jesus, who took our place and died upon the cross for our sins, and then giving us the Holy Spirit who live inside us, and His word to lead and guide us upon this journey.
