Building a Faith Foundation

Today’s Devotional: “Building a Faith Foundation”

As we examine the Christmas story, several people’s lives guide us in living out our faith in this world.

Consider Mary. Her example shows a life principle of building our lives on the foundation of faith.

The angel Gabriel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:30-33)

Mary replied that it was impossible for her to be pregnant because she was still, and intended to remain, a virgin until marriage.

However, Gabriel said, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)

And then Gabriel said, “With God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)

Instead of arguing or denying the possibility that such a thing could happen, Mary trusted in God and replied, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38)

It was her faith in God that enabled Him to use this young woman to bring about a great miracle.

In a world full of chaos and all the challenges we face in life, we must establish our faith on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ. When we do, God can use us to accomplish great things for His kingdom.

Let this be our prayer today: “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
