Thanksgiving Thought: “An Attitude of Gratitude for Thanksgiving”

George Washington’s 1782 Thanksgiving Proclamation emphasizes our nation’s dependence on the Lord God by crediting all victories and successes to Him.

Our forefathers and founding fathers trusted the Bible, knowing its author was God. So, no matter what hardships they faced—some really tough stuff—they maintained an attitude of gratitude.

We will soon gather around a table full of delicious food to celebrate Thanksgiving. But what makes me sad is that we only do this once a year. Why am I sad? Well, because I really enjoy turkey and all the fixings. The real reason, though, is that we should be thankful all year round.

We should be grateful not just today but all year long.

To the church in Thessalonica, Paul said, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

I believe that when we cultivate an attitude of gratitude, God will transform our messes into messages of hope and our tests into testimonies. We will no longer see the glass as half full or half empty, but as overflowing.
