Today’s Easter Devotional: “A Hope that Lives”
Hope is to our spirits what oxygen is to our bodies. When we don’t have enough oxygen to breathe, we die. When we don’t have hope, our spirit dies.
Everyone needs hope to survive, and this reflects what Solomon said in Proverbs 13:12 – “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.”
But such hope can never be achieved in the world. The world’s hope is more like wishful thinking.
Worldly hope is just an abstract idea without a real foundation. But hope, as defined in the Bible, isn’t simply wishful thinking; it’s a confident expectation and certainty.
The difference between the two lies in the object to which hope is placed.
The world hopes humanity will evolve and improve. However, throughout many centuries of recorded history, humanity hasn’t gotten better; it’s gotten much worse.
The notion that the world is improving would be funny if it weren’t so sadly false. The crime rate, acts of terror, and environmental disasters aren’t just rising—they’re piling up.
But the object of biblical hope remains steady and never changes. It is the Lord, who doesn’t change and is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8).
Christian hope differs from worldly hope because it is grounded in the reality of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. Therefore, it isn’t a dead hope but a hope that’s ALIVE (Always Living In View of Eternity).
Where there is resurrection and life, hope is present.
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (John 11:25)
Hope is more than just an idea; it is real, and His name is Jesus Christ. Keep your focus on Jesus and the future He has planned for you.
