Thought for Today: “A Heavenly Aroma”

In the God’s Temple, and within the Holy of Holy’s, behind the veil along with the table of showbread and the Menorah, stood the altar of incense. The altar of incense was representative of the people’s prayers to God.

Every morning and at twilight, the priest would put the incense upon the altar and the aroma would fill the inner sanctuary and would also be a sweet smell to God the Father.

Even in the heavenly temple, this practice continues.

“Another angel … was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand.” (Revelation 8:3-4)

This should then be the same for the church. That we would offer up, not only our own prayers, but the prayers of others. Therefore, the church should then smell of prayer.

Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” (Matthew 21:13)

King David prayed, “May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” (Psalm 141:2)
