People Are Talking
“But I have heard it said of you.” (Genesis 41:15b NKJV)
Joseph was standing before Pharaoh because Pharaoh heard that Joseph could interpret dreams.
Throughout his time as a slave, Joseph acted with integrity in his dealing with those around him, and throughout this time the Lord was with him. When he was sold to Potiphar, Potiphar saw the Lord’s hand on Joseph, and so Joseph was given authority over Potiphar’s entire household.
When Joseph was falsely accused and jailed the same scenario occurred. The warden saw the Lord’s hand upon Joseph so he made Joseph his assistant, putting the prisoners under Joseph’s care.
Even after Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream, and Pharaoh hearing all about Joseph from others, placed him as second in charge throughout the land. He said, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” (Genesis 41:38 NKJV)
Joseph’s story and Pharaoh’s statement started me thinking, “What have people heard about us, and what are they saying?”
Are people talking about us saying how much they see God in our words and in what we do, or are they seeing hypocrisy and saying we’re nothing more than a bunch of hypocrites? Are people saying they can see the Spirit of God in us?
We need to live our lives honestly and with integrity, open before the world so that people are drawn to Jesus on account of us. Or are people driven away from Jesus because of us?
We need to live our lives in accordance with what we say we believe. As believers we need to live our lives and beliefs in the open, and then others and the Lord will see and give testimony.
And while others may praise us, it’s the Lord’s testimony that is the greatest.
“Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” (Job 2:3).
