Thought For Today: “Tested by the Word”
“Until the time that His word came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him.” (Psalm 105:19)
Joseph received a dream, a prophecy about what would happen in his relationship with his family. But for it to take place, Joseph had to endure betrayal by his brothers, being sold into slavery, and imprisonment until God lifted him up and the word was fulfilled.
Likewise, God gives us His word of promise, but life’s circumstances can make it seem as if these promises are merely fantasies of our imagination. Yet it’s these very circumstances that God uses to test whether we’ll trust Him at His word or revert to our own understanding and follow our own ways.
“In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:6-7)
God is testing us by, in, and through His word to see whether we’ll trust Him or our circumstances.
Therefore, “When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
