Go to Jesus First

Thought For Today: “Go to Jesus First”

We often seek something that helps us fulfill our calling and ministry more effectively.

At these times, I remember the words of Peter, who, upon seeing the lame man begging for money, said, “Silver and gold I don’t have, but what I do have I give unto you. In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” (Acts 3:6)

I believe the Lord is saying we need to go to Jesus first and seek His direction before starting something new or continuing what we have been doing. That’s because, in the end, we’re His people, and so is the church, since He is its head.

“And He (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” (Colossians 1:18)

And the writer of Hebrews puts the exclamation point on this, telling us of our need to keep “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)

Therefore, let’s go to Jesus first, and let Him direct us in the way He wants us to go and in how His church should be run.
