Thought For Today: “God’s in the Restoration Business”

To restore means to bring something back to fullness or wholeness. In some instances, it means to reinstate. This is what God does for us, as we have been broken not only by our own sin but also by what others have said or done to us.

In other words, God takes broken people, like us, and makes us whole, so we don’t need to fear being broken or staying that way for the rest of our lives.

The Lord makes this clear through the prophet Isaiah in a beautiful promise. He said, “A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth.” (Isaiah 42:3)

That is, God will straighten those bent over by life’s trials and reignite those whose spiritual lives are about to be extinguished.

The Lord went on to say, “I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them.” (Isaiah 42:16)

Therefore, when we’ve been hurt by sin or by the careless words and deeds of others, we need not fear, because God will repair what has been broken within and reignite what is now barely an ember. God is in the business of restoring lives, not to the old way of life, but to a new way as He makes all things new through Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
