When God Shuts A Door

Thought For Today: “When God Shuts A Door”

There is a popular saying shared by nearly every Christian: We say, “When God shuts a door, he opens a window.”

First, that is not a biblical statement; instead, it is one of those feel-good statements to help us get through tough times when we don’t see God move the way we expected.

I know the story in Acts 20 about God shutting several doors for Paul to go to Macedonia, then later opening a way. Can I just say that God doesn’t always open a window.

In his first letter to the Corinthian Church, Paul wrote, “Each of you should continue to live in whatever situation the Lord has placed you, and remain as you were when God first called you.” (1 Corinthians 7:17)

If God closes a door, it doesn’t necessarily mean He will open a window. Sometimes God keeps both the door and the window shut because He wants us to stay put so we can learn a lesson.

Therefore, let’s live worthy of the calling with which we have been called instead of constantly seeking a way out.
