Today’s Devotional: “Distorted Images”

Distorted mirrors give distorted images.

Remember the traveling carnivals. They always have a “Fun House” filled with warped mirrors. When we looked into them, we saw distorted images of ourselves. For some, our heads appeared too big. Okay, for someone like me, that might not be a distortion. But other mirrors showed us in all sorts of weird ways.

Growing up, there were people in our lives who acted like mirrors, and we accepted whatever they said — that is, we accepted their view of who we are, not how God sees us.

These mirrors reflect what others have said into our lives. They might be parents, teachers, peers, or friends. They told us we’re stupid, won’t amount to anything, or that we’re no good. They called us fat, ugly, or weird. They called us geeks, fatso, pencil neck, or loser. These are all distorted images.

The problem is that we still carry all this data in our minds and hearts, and we’re acting on what they’ve told us. We’re living our lives based on the wrong information.

Today, I want to examine the true mirror—how God views us and what He says about us. This perspective will help us see God and ourselves in a whole new light, a light that will penetrate darkness and enable us to be healed.

And that is the mirror of His word

To facilitate this, there are several truths we need to understand because when we do, they’ll significantly change our lives, especially as we start to act on them. They’ll help free us from some of the old wounds that have not only been holding us back but also delaying the life we were meant to live.

Please understand that we are accepted by God, and while others might reject us, God never does. Additionally, we are valuable to God not only because we are His children but also because of the price He paid for our redemption.
