Today’s Devotional: “Sin Has Its Consequences”
It’s amazing how people think they can partake liberally of alcoholic beverages or drugs without suffering the consequences. They sit at a bar downing a few brews, then get behind the wheel thinking they’re okay, only to be pulled over by the police and ticketed for a DUI, or worse, cause an accident in which someone is hurt or dies.
The Lord says it’s no different when it comes to our sins. We think we can continue in our sins and still receive God’s blessings. We think nothing will happen and there’ll be no consequences.
In Deuteronomy 29:19, Moses said, “So it may not happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall have peace, even though I follow the dictates of my heart’ — as though the drunkard could be included with the sober.”
Just as a drunkard cannot be counted among the sober, so a sinner cannot be counted among those God blesses. Instead, we can expect to crash and burn at the end.
Moses continues, “The Lord would not spare him; for then the anger of the Lord and His jealousy would burn against that man, and every curse that is written in this book would settle on him, and the Lord would blot out his name from under heaven.” (Deuteronomy 29:20)
Since all have sinned (Romans 3:23) and there is no one righteous before God (Romans 3:10), what can we do? Are we headed to hell with our names blotted from the book of life?
NO!
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
We need to confess our sin, repent, and turn back to God. Remember that God is faithful and will forgive and deliver. Let’s pray for God’s mercy and grace to be poured out on us and for His deliverance in His overwhelming love.
