Thought For Today: “Secret to God’s Promises”
Behind God’s promises lies the foundation of our obedience.
God gives His commandments, which, by the way, aren’t suggestions. They’re found in His word so we can live our lives to the fullest. And while God’s commandments may sometimes seem unfair and unreasonable, God always knows what’s best. God’s not trying to cramp our style or limit our lives; instead, He wants to set us free and give us an abundant life.
Jesus said, “I have come that you may have life, and that more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
From our perspective, these commands don’t seem very logical. For example, giving God the first ten percent of what we earn—that’s called the tithe. Or if someone hurts us, we’re supposed to forgive them instead of retaliating with our own evil.
But no matter how unreasonable they may seem, God tells us to obey them anyway. It’s about trusting and having faith, because since God created us, He knows what’s best for our lives.
Obedience to God’s word is our declaration of faith, and it’s the key that unlocks all of God’s promises in our lives.
Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:28)
