Thought For Today: “Light Enters Darkness”
As God stepped into darkness and brought light, so Jesus, the Light of the World, steps into the darkness of death bringing the light of life.
“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” (Genesis 1:2-3)
But what was that light? When we look at what God brought forth right after it, and that is all vegetation, we realize the light that started shining was life giving. But it wasn’t the sun because God created the sun on the fourth day.
So, what was that light? What light began to shine on that first day that was able to give and sustain life?
The Apostle John said, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning … In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it … And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” (John 1:1-5, 14a)
And so, the light that entered the world at the very beginning was the life-giving light of Jesus.
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Therefore, let the light of Jesus give you life and lighten your way through this darkened world.
