Thought For Today: “The Pathway to True Greatness”
Humanity’s pathway to greatness consists in the power to compel others to serve them. But Jesus demonstrated God’s true pathway to true greatness.
Jesus took up the bowl and towel and proceeded to wash the feet of the disciples, taking upon himself the position of a servant, but not just any servant, the lowest servant on the servant totem pole.
And he said that while kings want to lord it over the people and exercise their authority over their lives, this wasn’t to be the case for those who are His disciples.
“For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.” (Luke 22:27)
Jesus demonstrated this service by leaving the glory of heaven behind and becoming like one of us, and then taking our place, paying our debt, and dying our death upon the cross (Philippians 2:5-11).
To His disciples Jesus said, “Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.” (Matthew 20:26)
Therefore, this should be our greatest desire, to serve the Lord by serving one another, and in this is the pathway to true greatness.
