Thought For Today: “A Useless Endeavor”
It’s vanity to think we can fight God. This was the Psalmist’s conclusion.
“Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing…saying, ‘Let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us.’” (Psalm 2:1-3)
Literally he’s saying it’s a waste of time.
Gamaliel the Pharisee in speaking of this new movement of those who were followers of Jesus Christ said, “If it is of God, you cannot overthrow it–lest you even be found to fight against God.” (Acts 5:39)
It’s a useless endeavor to tell God what we think and try to live our way rather than God’s way. Instead, let’s embrace the Lord and His plan for our lives instead of fighting Him all the way. It is then that we’ll have peace, along with a hope for the future.
Speaking through the prophet Jeremiah, the Lord said, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
