Today’s 333 Devotional: “Quality Quiet Time”
How is Our Quiet Time with the Lord?
To have the quality time with God we need to be “every day” in His word, prayer, and praise. When this happens the Lord ministers to our hearts, and we’ll then be able to minister into the lives of others.
To the women at the well, Jesus said something extremely practical in this regard.
“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” (John 4:23)
In Spirit and Truth – what does this mean and look like?
I liken the worship of God in Spirit to our praying in the spirit as one of the weapons of our warfare. You see, praying in the spirit isn’t necessary tongues, but for me it is allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our prayers.
This is the same for me as worshiping in the Spirit. It is allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our worship of the Lord.
And that would also extend to worshipping the Lord in truth. That is, allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our time in His word. Often the Bible says that God’s word is truth. Jesus said, “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” (John 17:17)
And so, to worship the Father in truth is to be in His word daily.
But when Jesus said that our worship of the Father is in spirit and truth, He was also saying that our worship of God isn’t tied to a place or things; rather genuine worship of God is spiritual. (Read More in Today’s Thought: “Spiritual Worship.”)
The woman looked at the place, looked at creation rather than the creator. She said, “Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” (John 4:20)
Therefore, our worship of the Lord is from our heart, not from ritualistic practices.
