Thought For Today: “The Wounds of God’s Love”
We all carry wounds from our past. Not just the wounds of betrayal and abuse, but the wounds of love. Wounds we want to forget, yet wounds we need. God allows these wounds, even inflicts them, to remind us of His love and keep us from straying too far from it.
Jacob’s wound came after he wrestled with God at the river Jabbok. Jacob wrestled with God for His blessing and protection, and as a reminder of that encounter, God touched Jacob’s hip socket, leaving him to walk with a limp from that time forward.
“Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him … you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.” (Genesis 32:24-28)
In the wounds we face in this life, Jesus is right there beside us, reaching out to help, carry, and encourage us. Yes, the wounds hurt, but they help us remember and find comfort, knowing that our heavenly Father loves us so much that He disciplines us in His love.
“Do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves.” (Hebrews 12:5-6a)
