Thought For Today: “Hope For Our Suffering”

Hope is born and nurtured amid our suffering, but this only happens when we know God’s character.

You see, God has a passion for relationship. This is seen in the Godhead, or what we call the Trinity. God has an intimate relationship with Himself, and that relationship is manifested in His relationship with us who have been created in His image and according to His likeness (Genesis 1:26).

This was part of Jesus’s prayer: “That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (John 17:21)

But sin entered the picture bringing with it evil, suffering, and sorrow. And in His passion for relationship, God’s love for us led Him to redeem us by making a door of hope in the middle of the valleys of our troubles (Hosea 2:15).

And so, the God of all hope sent His Son, Jesus, to take our place and die our death so we can have the hope of redemption and coming into that right relationship with Him, which translates itself into a living hope now, and an eternal hope in heaven.

Biblical hope wraps itself around whatever suffering and sorrow we may be experiencing and transforms it into rest and quietness bringing with it a confidence in His ability to heal.

“For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.’” (Isaiah 30:15)
