Today’s 333 Devotional: “What’s Our Part?”
Esther had just become queen, and while it wasn’t her choice, she did have a choice as to what part she was going to play and how she was going to use her position as queen in the deliverance of her people, the Jews.
When telling Mordecai, her uncle, the danger she faced, Mordecai said, “If you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)
God’s plans are established, and no one is going to foil them. The Bible tells us that in the end, God wins!
Jesus said, “The Scriptures must be fulfilled.” (Mark 14:49)
According to the writer of Hebrews this means God’s plans “were finished from the foundation of the world.” (Hebrews 4:3)
Humanity’s redemption was established from the very beginning of time. God already planned for humanity’s salvation through Jesus Christ, but He is asking us what part we want to play.
The choice is ours.
We see such a choice in what Joshua tells the Jewish people and the choice they had to make.
He said, “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
God gives us the free will to choose. The question, however, is what part do we want to play? That’s the singular decision each of us will need to make. And knowing that the Scriptures must be fulfilled, and that God wins in the end, hopefully it will help us make the right choice.
So, what part will you play in God’s plan?
