What’s It Going To Take?
February 2, 2023

Today’s 333 Devotional: “What’s It Going To Take?”

The more I see what’s happening in our world I wonder, “What’s it going to take?” What’s it going to take to get the church and our country back to what God has called us to be?

I think the Lord gives us a starting point.

The starting point isn’t changing anything on the outside; rather it’s changing from the inside out. A transformation is what’s called for. It’s not trying to change the politics or policies of our country or the church; rather it’s changing our hearts. It’s the softening of our hearts to hear God’s word once again.

The Lord said this to the children of Israel.

“Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your hearts … lest My fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.” (Jeremiah 4:3-4)

It’s breaking up the hardness of our own hearts so that God’s word, will, and way can grow and produce a harvest of righteousness.

In Matthew 13, Jesus in His parable of the Sower said nothing less. He said the ground the seed is sown upon is the human heart.

  • The heart that is hardened due to unbelief hears God’s word but doesn’t allow it to enter.
  • There’s also a shallow heart that hears God’s word, but when life doesn’t go their way, they depart.
  • The heart that is filled with worldly cares and pleasures chokes out God’s word, but
  • The heart that is broken is a heart that is receptive to God and His word, and in the end will produce a fruitful crop of righteousness and will endure to the end.

God is calling us to break up the hardness of our hearts. This is where it starts. We need to confess our sin, repent, and turn back to God and His word, read 2 Chronicles 7:14.
