What Price a Man’s Soul?

Rediscover the Bible for Life

“What Price a Man’s Soul?”

Jesus said, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Luke 10:2)

People still bound to this world, who have never tasted and partaken of the heavenly gift of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, their ambitions tend to take many different directions. But the true ambition of every Christian should find its expression and direction in a single course of action, the saving of souls.

The Bible tells us, “He who wins souls is wise.” (Proverbs 11:3)

Pastor Charles Street once said, “I would rather have one young man come to my grave and affirm, ‘The man who sleeps there arrested me in the course of sin and led me to Christ,’ than to have the most magnificent obelisk that ever marked the place of mortal remains.”

That’s a worthy ambition, and the only ambition worthy of a Christian.

But with all the pressures of work, family, marriage, or just life in general, what is that one thing that will make the difference?

It has been said over and over again, “The church is not pleasure boat; rather, the church is a lifeboat. And God is calling all hands on deck, and the purpose to seek and save the lost.”

So, what is that one thing that will make us leave the ship and get aboard the lifeboat to rescue those who are drowning in an ocean of sin?

I believe it’s when we understand the true cost of the human soul.

So, how valuable is the human soul? What value do you place upon it? The Bible says, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost.” (Luke 9:25)

In God’s economy, the world and all that it contains is no where close to being comparable in value to the human soul, and in the end only the soul will remain eternal, while all the rest of this stuff will end. And while the soul is eternal, its final destination is still up for grabs. Will it burn in hell for all eternity, or will it reside in the presence of God in heaven?

So when we get a good understanding of the true price of a person’s soul, we will truly fulfill the purpose that God has for the church. Jesus told us this purpose, that which is known as the Great Commission, which is to go and makes disciples of all nations

God didn’t call the church to make different denominations. He didn’t call the church to create new doctrines that divide, or to have theological debates on who’s saved and who’s not. Instead we are to go make disciples because God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

How valuable is the human soul? Jesus came and died upon the cross to redeem it, to bring it back into a right relationship with God, its Creator.

So, be wise the Bible says, and start sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
