Trusting God Above Circumstances

The prophet Elijah prophesied there would be a drought for several years. The Lord then led him to a brook and had the ravens feed him. But when the brook dried up the Lord told him to go to Zarephath of Sidon where He had commanded a widow to care for him (1 Kings 17:1-9).

When he got there he came across a widow gathering sticks. When he asked her for something to eat and drink she said, “I don’t have any bread–only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it–and die.” (1 Kings 17:12)

However, Elijah said if she did as he said she would never lack either flour or oil until the Lord allowed it to rain once again.

Now, what would you do?

We’re down to our last bit of funds, with nothing stashed away for a rainy day, or in this case a non-rainy day, and the Lord commands us to give, like He did this Sidonian widow.

How strong is our faith?

The Sidonian widow had great faith, even in this most dire of circumstances, she put her faith in God above what she was presently facing, above her situation and circumstance.

When we give unto the Lord as He commands, He will meet our needs. God makes this the acid test of our faith. In fact, God considers it robbery when we don’t give the tithe as He commanded.

He said, “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse … and try Me now in this … if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes.” (Malachi 3:10-11)

Are we trusting God above our circumstances?
