Thought For Today: “True Humility”
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (James 4:10)
Humility is facing our frailties, failures, sins, and acknowledging our complete dependence on God.
Jesus brings this out in the very first beatitude. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)
To be “poor in spirit” basically means to acknowledge our spiritual poverty, and that we are spiritually bankrupt before God. It’s understanding we’re sinners saved by grace, when in reality we deserve God’s wrath.
John the Baptist brings out how this looks saying, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)
Humility is getting smaller in our own eyes so that Jesus can be magnified in our lives.
