Today’s 333 Devotional: “The World’s Big Rip-off”
The world will take the best part of what we have and who we are and then have the audacity tell us what we are to do, and if we don’t follow their instructions, then they will end up taking away our freedom.
It’s amazing how we want the world’s ways and all of its goods, but in the wanting are we rejecting God rule over our lives?
In essence we’re like the Israelites who wanted a king to rule over them just like all the other nations, instead of trusting God that He knew what was best. They wanted the world’s rule and reign and not God’s.
This displeased the prophet Samuel, but the Lord said, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them.” (1 Samuel 8:7)
The people were tried of being different from everyone else around them; instead they wanted to blend in.
There’s a sad but true statement; “Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it.”
God has called us to be a separate people, a holy people, a people called out of the world for the Kingdom of God. And while we are to live in this world, we are never to be a part of it.
“For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.” (Deuteronomy 7:6; 14:2)
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
So let’s stop wanting what the world has to offer, and start living for God and to further His kingdom plans and purposes here on earth.
