Thought for Today: “The Sword of the Spirit”
God’s Word is our spiritual sword.
Speaking about our spiritual armament, Paul said, “Take…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17)
And why not, “word,” is found in the word “sword.”
Being the sword of the Spirit, what we see is that all of what is written in the Bible has been breathed out by God (2 Timothy 3:16), and it was the Holy Spirit that separated for His work those who spoke forth God’s word (2 Peter 1:21).
And this sword of the Spirit is not just a defensive weapon, but offensive. Not only does it parry Satan’s attacks, but it also defeats them. This is evidenced in Jesus using God’s word to thwart Satan’s temptations (Luke 4:1-13).
At each of Satan’s temptations Jesus would say, “It is written,” and then quote the Scriptures.
And so, today let’s pick up God’s sword, His word, and defeat the enemy of our soul, Satan.
