Thought for Today: “The Surety of Obscurity”

Fame is fleeting. What use to be 15 minutes of fame has been downgraded to 5 minutes if they’re lucky! Break a record and it will be broken not long afterwards, that is, if anyone remembers the record at all.

Regardless of what we’ve accomplished, most of it will be forgotten over time. Consider the names that grace various building or schools. Most of us have no idea, and really don’t care, who these people may have been.

This is why Solomon calls life without God’s purpose attached as being useless and insignificant.

“There is no remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of things that are to come by those who will come after.” (Ecclesiastes 1:11)

But it isn’t man that we should or need to be remembered by, but rather the Lord, and that not for our deeds, but for our faithfulness, so that when we enter heaven, we’ll hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:23)
