Thought For Today: “Salvation by Grace”
Our salvation is not on our performance, but rather it’s based on God’s grace.
Now, while some define grace and mercy as the same, there is a distinct difference.
Mercy is God not punishing us as our sins deserve, and grace is God blessing us despite the fact that we do not deserve it. Mercy is deliverance from judgment. Grace is extending kindness to the unworthy.
And so, our salvation doesn’t depend on our effort; rather it depends solely on God’s grace. No one can earn their way, work their way, or even bluff their way to heaven. If we’re not saved by God’s grace, then we’re not saved.
The Apostle Paul probably said it best. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
