Thought for Today: “Reverse the Curse”
Since the time of Adam and Eve, humanity has been living under a curse. It’s called the curse of sin. In Romans 5:12, it says, “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.”
And the consequence of sin is death, as Paul continued in his letter to the Roman church saying, “For the wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23a)
But even though everyone is under the curse, they don’t have to stay there. In 1 Corinthians 15:22 Paul said, “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.” And in the second half of Romans 6:23 we’re told that while the wages of sin is death, the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And so, we reverse the curse through faith in Jesus Christ. In fact, we’re told that while Jesus hung upon the cross, He became sin’s curse for us, and thus reversed the curse for all who believe. “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.” (Galatians 3:13a)
Jesus Himself proclaims this truth at the resurrection of Lazarus. He said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” (John 11:25-26)
So, everyone must submit themselves to a new birth as Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)
