Reflecting God’s Glory

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Reflecting God’s Glory”

In the beginning God created the sun, the greater light to light the day, and the moon, the lesser to light the night (Genesis 1:14-18).

And while we know this as part of God’s creation it is not without spiritual significance to believers in Jesus Christ.

The moon is not a light source; rather it reflects the light of the sun. This is a perfect picture of believers in Jesus. Within us there is no light, only the darkness of sin. But when the light of Jesus arises upon us, we are called upon to shine that light, that is, to reflect the light of Jesus onto this sin darkened world.

We are the lesser light, but still the same light leading people out of darkness. We are to be the light of Jesus Christ on full display. This was Jesus’s command.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

We are called to shine with the light of Jesus guiding lost people to the salvation available only through Jesus Christ who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one can come unto the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

A.W. Milne, a missionary to New Guinea, died while preaching the gospel to the inhabitants. Those he helped convert to Christ asked to put a marker on his grave as a lasting legacy.

It said, “Here lies the remains of A.W. Milne. When he came to us there was no light. When he died there was no darkness.”

That is the light we are all called upon to shine. So, arise, shine, and reflect God’s glory today.
