Recovering God

Ever feel like you’re all alone, that no one knows or cares what you’re going through, and that no one’s there to encourage you. Maybe you’ve been sick or in the hospital and no one was there with you. No one called and you began to feel sorry for yourself and your lot in life.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone will go through seasons of loneliness and despair.

But before you start throwing in the towel, you need to understand that these sorts of incidences, or what we might call seasons in life, actually have a purpose and have been designed by God to turn a curse into a blessing.

This is the story of David. In his desire to escape Saul, David went into the land of the Philistines and was given the city of Ziglag for he and his men, along with their families, to live.

But one day while out fighting the enemies of Israel, the Amalekites came and took captive their families and possessions.

It says, “David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep.” (1 Samuel 30:4)

When David crossed over into the land of the Philistines he lost his vision and passion, but worst of all, he lost his ability to ascertain God’s will. The years he spent in the land of the Philistines David failed to seek God until the Ziglag disaster where he sat in the blackened ruins of his compromise.

But then David returned to sanity. He encouraged and strengthen himself in the Lord and inquired of God what he should do next, and God said to pursue and recover, 1 Samuel 30:8.

While they were successful recovering their families and possessions, and then some, David recovered even more. David recovered his vision, passion, and Spirit-filled guidance.

David learned his lesson. Instead of moving forward in his own wisdom, he would instead wait and inquire of the Lord.
