Peace and Safety in God’s Promises

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Peace and Safety in God’s Promises”

The book of Ruth is a beautiful story of God’s love. It speaks of human love and loyalty.

“Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me” (Ruth 1:16-17).

This book also reveals our need for a kinsman redeemer, which is what Jesus became for us.

But it also contains a warning not to leave the promises of God, even when things get uncomfortable. This was the testimony of Elimelech’s family, which Ruth marries into.

A famine was spreading throughout the land of Judah, which was God’s judgment for His people’s idolatry and doing whatever they thought was right, rather than believing God and following His word.

“In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)

Because of the famine, Elimelech moved his family away from the Promised Land and into the country of Moab to survive. It was there that Elimelech died along with his two sons, Mahlon and Chilion (Ruth 1:1-5).

We need to stay in the promises of God, because it’s in His promise that He will keep us.

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us” (2 Corinthians 1:20).

There will be trials and tribulations when we follow Jesus by faith into the promises of God, but His lasting peace will be ours when we stay in them.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
