Make the Most of Every Opportunity

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Make the Most of Every Opportunity”

Knowing that the hour is nearer than anyone of us expects. The Apostle Paul tells us a couple of things we need to do.

First is to make the most of every opportunity God gives.

“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16)

While there are three Greek words used to indicate time, the word the Apostle Paul uses is “kairos,” which refers to an appointed time, a fixed or special occasion.

The Apostle Paul’s saying, “When these moments or seasons occur, when opportunity knocks, don’t let it pass you by, instead, seize the opportunity God has set before you.”

The only question is, “Will we recognize it when it comes?”

God provides the opportunity. It’s our responsibility to be alert, watchful, to see it, believe God for it, and then step out into it. The reason according to the Apostle Paul is because the days are evil.

Spiritual apathy is dangerous in this evil world we live. Paul is telling us that if we’re not careful, we can miss God’s will for our lives; we can miss His opportunity for us.

This was the case for Israel when they first came to the Promised Land. This was also the case for Herod and the religious leaders when the Wise Men came seeking the Messiah.

We need to understand that Satan is a thief out to steal God’s blessings from us.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” (John 10:10a)

Jesus said that if we’re not careful Satan will steal away these opportunities God give us, and one way he does it is by helping us find excuses as to why not.

Today, what will you see – an opportunity or an excuse? The hour is closer than you may think, so make the most of every opportunity.

Tomorrow we’ll look at Paul’s second piece of advice.
