Today’s Devotional: “Living For Jesus While We Wait”

With the election over, what are we now as Christians suppose to do?

There is a beautiful example of how we are to live our life until the Lord returns. It comes from an obscure individual in the Bible. His name is Mephibosheth. Crippled from being dropped when he was a child, hiding out in a desolate land, Lo Debar, sought after by King David, and restored to the palace to always sit at King David’s table, Mephibosheth had it made.

But the King had to leave, and Mephibosheth, being crippled, couldn’t follow, but remained behind in Jerusalem.

So how did he live while his king was away? The story is found in 2 Samuel 19.

“Now Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king. And he had not cared for his feet, nor trimmed his mustache, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he returned in peace.” (2 Samuel 19:24)

While Mephibosheth remained in Jerusalem he dressed and lived in such a way to share the sorrow and suffering that his lord, David, was suffering.

Are we living for the Lord’s return? And how are we conducting ourselves until that time?

Mephibosheth lived in a way that was honoring to his lord, showing to all his devotion.

We need to live our lives in such a way that the world around us sees our love and devotion to our King, Jesus, until He returns, or until we are called home.

Jesus said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)

Concerning the way we are to live the Apostle Paul said “Always (be) carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.” (2 Corinthians 4:10-11)
