Today’s 333 Devotional: “Let’s Give Thanks for God”

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations” (Psalm 100:4-5).

When we give thanks to God, we always tend to list those items we’re thankful for, like family, friends, a job, a place to live, car to drive, not to mention a computer along with the Internet.

I remember when my daughter first started saying her prayers before eating; she would thank everything including the forks and spoons.

But here’s the rub, have we taken the time to thank God?

Here in this Psalm, also known as a Psalm of Thanksgiving, we’re encouraged to bring our thanks directly to God’s throne. But generally, when we come to God in prayer, we do so asking Him for the stuff we want, or it’s to thank Him for all the stuff we have. Rarely do we come just to thank Him.

When we come to the Lord, we need to come thanking and praising Him for all His goodness and faithfulness towards us, and how His goodness and faithfulness continues throughout the generations.

And that goodness and faithfulness is seen in His love towards us, the love that sent Jesus to the cross to die for us so that we can be set us free from sin and death’s power over us.

“It is written, ‘Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?’ The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:54b-57)

Let’s start thanking Him for His amazing grace, marvelous mercy, and wonderous deliverance every chance we get though out the day. Let’s start thanking Him for what He has done and Who He is, our Savior and Lord.
