Today’s 333 Devotional: “Let God Dig Deep”
“God said to me, ‘Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel commits to make Me go far away from My sanctuary?’ … So He brought me to the door of the court … And He said to me, ‘Go in, and see the wicked abominations which they are doing there.’ So I went in and saw, and there–every sort of creeping thing, abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed all around on the walls.” (Ezekiel 8:6-10)
This was a vision given to Ezekiel of the elders, the rulers and leaders of Israel, and what was in their hearts. And while they looked clean on the outside, and spoke great and soaring words of God, inside they were filled with abominations and idols.
Jesus said it like this, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.” (Matthew 23:27)
If we could just see ourselves as God sees us, filled with worldly idols, that is, those things of this world we hold onto; then we would fall quickly to our knees and repent.
God sees is what is really going on inside, deep within our souls, which are the idols and sin we hold onto and keep from the sight of others, lest we expose our own hypocrisy.
Therefore, we need to be honest with God and begin to confess these things and repent, that is, start the process of turning away from them.
Instead of adding God to our lives that are filled with these abominations and idols, we should be seeking God’s forgiveness, and let Him start bringing us into His holy life.
“As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” (1 Peter 1:15-16)
