Jesus Is The Ladder
Church is where heaven and earth meet, and Jesus is the ladder
Jesus said that He is Jacob’s ladder, and that the connection, that gateway between heaven and earth is found only in Him.
When Jesus called His disciples to service, Nathanael said Jesus was the Son of God, and Jesus responded saying that Nathanael would see heaven open upon Jesus with the angels ascending and descending upon Himself.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.” (John 1:51 NKJV)
Jesus was bringing Nathaniel and all of us back to the story of Jacob and a dream he had. In the dream Jacob saw a ladder set up between heaven and earth with the God’s angels ascending and descending upon it, Genesis 28:11-12.
Jesus is the link; He is the means by which the realities of heaven are brought down to earth. But not only that, all love and power of God are now available through Jesus.
But I think Jesus also meant more given Jacob’s words. When Jacob awoke from the dream he said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it … How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” (Genesis 28:16-17 NKJV)
Jesus being the ladder, and the church being His body, which He is the head, and with Jacob saying that where the ladder is the house of God exists, Jesus was saying that it’s within the church where the heavens are opened, and Jesus is the gateway where people experience God’s love and power for their lives.
Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20 NKJV)
Church is the place where heaven and earth meet, because Jesus is the ladder that connects humanity with God.
