God’s Provision and Faithfulness During Tough Times

About two and a half years ago, I was informed that my job was going to be reduced to part-time for tentatively two weeks due to financial issues. The CEO hoped the issue would be resolved, but no guarantees were given and it could last longer. When I shared with my husband, Ken, we immediately took it to the Lord in prayer. We knew we were in for some tough times ahead, but we also knew the faithfulness of God was greater than our circumstances. He had already brought us through so much that year already with Ken’s two surgeries and has provided for every single need in ways we never expected.

That week we received a check from our health insurance company that we were not even expecting for a substantial amount. A few days later Ken had an anonymous customer give him money who overheard about Ken’s surgery. That weekend while we were spending time with the Lord seeking Him we received a phone call from Salvation Army approving rental assistance for that month. This was before we knew that the situation at my work would be extended indefinitely. God already had his plan of provision set in place, before we knew of our need.

Psalm 37:25 says, “…I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” The Lord reminded us that He alone is Jehovah, Jireh, our provider, and that no matter what circumstances we face He will never forsake us when we are faithful to His word.

Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 3:20-21 tells us, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

We may not always know how God is going to provide, and it may not even be in a way were expecting, but we do know that regardless of what we are facing, not only is He able to provide abundantly beyond what we can imagine, but it will always be in a way that will bring glory to His name.

Even though my work situation is still the same, God has continued to provide for our every need and has us in a place of complete dependence upon, and contentment in, Him alone for He is faithful. “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation” (Philippians 4:12a)
