Therefore Go
“Go” is a very powerful word God uses when He calls us out.
To Abraham God said, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1 NIV)
God promised Abraham if he would leave everything he knew and go fulfill God’s will, then God would bless him, making him a great nation and blessing the whole world through him.
We see a similar command when Jesus told the disciples to go. He said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20a NIV)
And like Abraham God would bless them. Jesus said, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b NIV)
And the disciples received God’s blessing of His power as they went forth and blessed the whole world.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NIV)
Abraham left everything he knew at God’s command and went, and received God’s blessing. The disciples left everything they knew at Jesus’ command and received God’s blessings.
There’s a pattern. When we hear the Lord speak telling us to leave our comfort zones to fulfill His calling upon our lives, then He will bless us, giving us the power to fulfill His calling, blessing not only us, but all those we come in contact with.
And so let’s go and hold nothing back, and at the same time let’s not let anything hold us back. Let’s not let fear or the familiar hold us back. Let’s make our obstacles into opportunities. God will give us the power, strength, and ability through the Holy Spirit when we go where He directs.
