God’s Gift of Service
In choosing Aaron and his sons to perform the service of the priesthood, God said that it was His gift to them.
“But only you and your sons may serve as priests in connection with everything at the altar and inside the curtain. I am giving you the service of the priesthood as a gift.” (Numbers 18:7)
The work that we do for the Lord isn’t some sort of obligation, but rather it is a gift bestowed upon us by God, or as the NAS translation says, “a bestowed service.”
God has given to each of us the gift of serving Him by serving others. It is no chore, but a privilege. It is a privileged service, given and appointed to us by God.
Consider the blessings of such service.
It increases our time in fellowship with God, thus strengthening our ties with Him and our desires follow His will and way for our lives.
It allows us to serve Him by serving others, which will result in future blessings
“Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world … inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” (Matthew 25:34, 40)
The Apostle Peter said,
“You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ … But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:5, 9)
Our service is to be done as a gift to God, joyfully, giving ourselves back to Him as those living sacrifices, which is our reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)
So don’t think this life of service is some obligation, but rather it is a gift given by God.
